Some-time Raptors Sachi and Rachel ran their Division One race for Berkeley HS in an absolute monsoon. I think they were soaked before they even cleared the start area! As Annabel and I watched and cheered for them she was thrilled that, that with her race still to come she might get chance to run in the same conditions. But alas, the rain stopped after the Div. One race and Annabel got none of the fun and all of the mud for her race.
Despite that, she ran like the champ she is and finished (as a freshman, remember) 29th in the Division Four varsity girls, with a quick (especially for the wretched conditions--in her race Sachi ended up sliding back down one of the hills on her knees!) 20:13.
Annabel after the race. In the following pic I'll zoom in on the results board.
There it is in blue and white!
A quick look at the official results shows Annabel as the seventh freshman finisher! And remember when we were thrilled when it looked like Annabel might get shot to run varsity this season? Well, that seems like ancient history. She not only ran varsity for AHS, she ruled it! Yesterday at Hayward she beat the second AHS varsity girl (Suzanne Becker) by over a minute!
Way to go, Annabel!
